Israel’s Megiddo prison administration detains sick prisoners


NABLUS, (PIC)– The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) stated on Tuesday that Megiddo prison administration detained a number of sick prisoners despite their urgent need for treatment.

The Israeli prison service (IPS) did not provide the prisoners with the necessary treatments and appropriate blankets and winter clothing.

The PPS lawyer reported during his visit to Megiddo prison that IPS continued to hold the prisoner Hassan Abdel Halim Touraby, although he suffers cancer of blood, and the prisoner Ahmed Fawaz Saleh Salmiya who suffers left foot, liver, pelvis, and groin injuries.

The PPS report pointed out to the existence of many sick prisoners in Megiddo prison such as the prisoner Hamza Qakor from Jenin who needs to undergo urgent surgery, the prisoner Ahmed Makhlouf, from Burkin – Jenin, who suffers from bone infection that could lead to amputating his foot, in addition to the prisoner Mohamad Nasri Abu Rab, from Qabatia, who suffers intestinal bacterial infection.

The PPS called on the Red Cross, and international organizations to bear their responsibilities towards the medical situation of the prisoners and to pressure the IPS to provide the necessary treatment to the sick prisoners.
