A 15-year-old Palestinian boy died of a gunshot wound in West Bank on Saturday, hospital officials stated. His father and two friends accused Israeli soldiers for the shooting. The troops were guarding a nearby settlement at the time.

A military police investigation has been opened reported an Israeli military spokeswoman but she had no more details on the events.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas claimed this action was destructive to the peace process overall and blamed Israel in a statement for the “cold-blooded assassination”.

The cause of death was a single gunshot wound, as stated by doctors at the Ramallah hospital where Wajih Wajdi Al-Ramahy was taken after being shot. His father, Wajdi, said the Israeli soldiers shot him with no provocation.

The father, who resides in the Jalazoun refugee camp near the town of Ramallah, claims his son left a grocery store at which time he was shot from the nearby settlement, about 300 meters away.

“I will send the body of my son for autopsy to prove he was killed by Israeli army gunfire and I will sue them,” he said.

Two boys, friends of Ramahy, that said they were with him when he was shot blamed the Israeli soldiers.

“Soldiers who appeared from an area at the fence fired at Wajih and killed him,” said one of the boys. The two boys refused to be identified publicly.

When the shooting occurred, there was no unrest in the area, said the father.

Since the U.S.-brokered peace talks began in July, seventeen Palestinians and four Israelis have been killed. Palestinian officials say the sides remain separated on the key issues of security, borders, Jerusalem’s status and Palestinian refugees.
