Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahar said on Friday “the Palestinian resistance will not accept any international resolution which touches resistance weapons or does not fully end the siege.”Al-Zahar commented on the diplomatic efforts lead by France, Germany and the UK to get a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution aimed at ending the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
EU diplomats said that this initiative aims at getting the support of the 15 member states of the UNSC, especially after a draft resolution introduced by Jordan was vetoed by the US.
The plan includes the opening of Gaza crossings, the return of the Palestinian Authority to the territory, preventing Hamas from acquiring more arms and building more tunnels and assuring Israeli security demands. The EU is to monitor the crossings.
Meanwhile, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri stressed that rockets continue to be fired out of Gaza; Israel is unhappy because their assassination of the Qassam leaders did not affect Hamas’ ability to resist.
